14/52 a quote a week
a quote from my family, once a week, every week.

the kiddo standing by his papa looking at this large oil painting at the art gallery of nsw. I showed him the link to the painting just now. this is what he said.

me: remember this?
kiddo: yes. (pauses. thinking.) it's the same battle where humpty dumpty fell off the wall.

***

we were all excited to be at the gallery this week. as a finalist in the young archie competition, the kiddo has his drawing hanging on the wall, which we got to see for the first time.

he also joined the other finalists in receiving a certificate presented by richard morecroft. (who, as an aside, I watched on the abc news every single night of my life growing up.)

***

it's super important to me that the kids feel I love them and am proud of them for who they are, not for what they do. but it was definitely a proud moment to see him acknowledged for his art. also, I was really pleased for him. he loves doing his drawings so much.

I asked him what his favourite part of the evening was. catching the train with the family? eating at the gallery with the grandparents? seeing the paintings? he said being presented with the award. (and here's his reaction when he found out he was a finalist.)

care to share words from your family this week? here's the linky.

  1. I think that feeling of being really truly proud of someone else and pleased for someone else…someone you love so deeply…is one of the best mom feelings.

  2. I love the concept of the young Archies, our country focuses so much on sporting achievements from a young age it's lovely to see art encouraged.

    1. it's such an encouraging project and it was pulled together in a really special way for the kids. max's art teacher at school is instrumental in getting the kids involved in these kind of things, which makes all the difference in the world. x

    2. I feel the same way about making sure my kids know I'm proud of who they are vs what they do. ps - I love the kiddo's description of his drawing, it made me giggle.
