a proposal

ayana resort bali

the mister and I are quite different in some ways. for instance, he says 'travel', I say 'holiday'. he says 'camping', I say, '5 stars?'

earlier this year, we agreed that a trip to a resort in bali (just us, no kids!) could suit us both. resort = relaxing. indonesia = surfing/adventure.

and you know what? it was quite the amazing trip. candlelit dinners of fresh seafood where we wiggled our toes in the sand. flowering trees with hanging lanterns, dragonflies landing on lily pads. lush lawns, manicured hedges (I do love a manicured hedge) and infinity pools everywhere I looked.

then on our second night, while we were having a ridiculously romantic time, sipping cocktails and watching the sun set over the ocean, he turned to me and said, "will you marry me?"

I was so surprised. I just stared at him. then I said something like, 'what?! no way! are you kidding?'

but he was holding out an open box with a diamond in it and after a few minutes I realised the moment was real. I said,"yes."

you guys, we're getting married.

have you been engaged? were you surprised to be proposed to? did you do the proposing? I'd love to hear!

  1. Aww congratulations! How lovely to be surprised. Our proposal was more of an agreement than anything, it was sweet but certainly not as romantic as a holiday in Bali.

    1. that makes sense to me lila. I thought if we ever got married it would come about though a conversation. I never expected a surprise proposal.

  2. Oh Bron - congratulations! I love this story - and your initial response!! I am so jealous of your childless holiday! We really need to do this. Hubby proposed on top of the summit at Mt Buller on a summery January day, with ring in hand that he designed and had made up. Enjoy this wonderful time - my goodness what a spectacular bride you will be! And I know a really good photographer.. ha! x

    1. thanks tahnee! I highly recommend the child-free break. we were very fortunate to have our mums help us out with that.

I love that your hubby designed the ring especially for you, that takes a certain level or bravery and confidence I think!

  3. Congrats!
I thought R was joking when he asked me too…I always knew we would get married but I figured it would be for some practical reason like a visa…I wasn't expecting romance!

  4. Congratulations Bron! That is beautiful news!!!

Well, I didn't know I was going to be proposed to on the actual night it happened but I did know that we would be married at some point because he told me very early on in our relationship - that was the real surprise :-)

  9. I have never been proposed to. My ex Mother-in-law bought me and engagement ring to wear when I became pregnant. He words, "so I don't embarrass the family buy us not being engaged or married). No I never wore the ring. My ex left near the end of the pregnancy (he no longer wanted to be a father) no bloody wonder we never got married! So i sold the ring to buy baby stuff.

But your proposal sound like a movie story line, how romantic. So do we get to see the ring? Have you set a date. Besides never being married I love weddings! So can't wait to hear what is happening.

    1. I too would be quite displeased with being given a ring in that manner :\

the mister presented me with stone and asked my if I'd lie to pick the setting, which I have! it will be ready in a few months and for sure I will share it :)
