room for kids : when beatrix potter moved to nyc

posted on: Thursday, January 17, 2013

If you had carte blanche to create a home that suited you perfectly what would it be like? I think mine would be quite like this Brooklyn abode of Miranda Brooks, Bastien Halard and their two daughters, Poppy and Violette Grey.

Lush herbaceous borders? Leafy canopies? Romantic furnishings? And situated in New York City? My inner storybook-style sensibilities and bustle love are wholly satisfied.

(Although that horse in the kitchen is a bit too whimsical, even for me.)

Terracotta pots, aluminium watering cans, garden shovels. Vogue calls this a 'pastoral look'. I call it, 'So Beatrix Potter'.

What would your dream house be like? Have you ever come across a picture or a place and thought, 'This is it, this is my ideal dwelling'? I'd love to hear!

You can check out more photos and the accompanying article in the January issue of American Vogue, on sale in Australia now.

    1. I know, right? I would have loved those rooms when I was a little girl. I wonder what kind of room the lady will want when she's bigger...

  4. This is it! This is my dream home!!! Seriously Bron, have just saved every photo to stare at and dream over.
We are slowly saving to build a home one day and this ticks all the decor boxes. Whimsy and worn. Love, love, love.
    Thank-you for finding it!!!
