25 days of christmas : deck the halls

posted on: Friday, November 30, 2012

There are just 25 days until Christmas!

At our house the preschooler has started eyeing the box full of decorations and looking forward to getting stuck into the activities that we only take out in December (if you let him, he will celebrate Christmas every day, all year long. That is a lot of dashing through the snow).

Are you starting to decorate too? Or will you wait until closer to the 25th? If you're looking for a fun and easy decorating option you might like Love Mae's Christmas Banner, isn't it sweet?

One banner will also be included in our International Christmas Gift Giveaway, hooray! This year's giveaway is full of so many gorgeous items, I can't wait to share it with you next week. In the meantime, I hope you have a very lovely weekend :)

Merry Christmas Banner, approx $79.95 plus shipping from Love Mae

sakura bloom sling diaries : connection

posted on: Monday, November 26, 2012

Lately this lady of mine just wants to be held and held and held. She's had another little cold and is looking for some good old-fashioned mama time.

Sometimes I have to put her down to do chores or tend her brothers and she shouts and works herself up into a mini frenzy complete with bleating cries, you know the ones? So sad.

When I return to her red-faced little self she scoots right up onto my lap. I fold her into me and her small round head nestles into my shoulder. The bleating stops, sometimes she lets out a small sigh. She relaxes.

It's amazing how intensely we need that human connection -- how these tiny babes of ours feel that all is right with the world when they can feel our heartbeat. And how our own hearts feel like they will burst when our babies smile their gummy smiles up at us.

Amazing.

baby : 9 months

posted on: Friday, November 9, 2012

In a measure of just how hectic our life has become, I am posting the lady's 9 month update nearly 2 months late. Oops.

But I did manage to snap her portrait, and take notes on my phone as her ninth month was unfolding. Here is my little letter to her, if you'd like to read it.

dear lady,
on the very day you turned 9 months-old you commemorated the occasion by cutting your first two teeth (the bottom ones). I was so surprised as your brothers didn't cut their first teeth until they were 12 months. you are also snot-free for only the second time since winter started. that alone is cause for celebration. you still love to crawl, and to stand by holding on to the furniture, but you have not started walking yet and I am secretly glad.

we have introduced a bottle for your afternoon feed so we breastfeed in the morning and evening and formula feed in the day. now that you have adjusted to the bottle you flap your arms with excitement when you see me preparing it. I thought I might feel a little sad giving up one of your breastfeeds but instead I feel relieved to get a break sometimes.

your wispy hair is finally growing enough to tickle my chin when I am holding you -- a novelty after all these months. I may or may not be collecting a stash of clips and hairbands for when you're older.

a little anecdote: the week you turned 9 months old I was taking your big brother to kindy and your biggest brother (as we call him) was holding you, encouraging you to wave goodbye to us by waving your arm for you -- and then he let go and you did it by yourself! now you can wave when prompted but only with your left hand (are you left-handed?) it's very cute.

you also clap, jig up and down, and squeal with protest if I take away an object you're after, which is a new development. your personality is starting to shine through more, you seem to be sweet and feisty -- although mostly quite laid back, very similar to your biggest brother when he was a babe, but with your very own super-sized smiles

you are a delight lady, a total delight. happy nine months.

If you fancy catching up on the lady's babyhood here she is at 8 months7 months6 months5 months4 months3 months2 months1 month and newborn.
