In a measure of just how hectic our life has become, I am posting the lady's 9 month update nearly 2 months late. Oops.
But I did manage to snap her portrait, and take notes on my phone as her ninth month was unfolding. Here is my little letter to her, if you'd like to read it.
dear lady,
on the very day you turned 9 months-old you commemorated the occasion by cutting your first two teeth (the bottom ones). I was so surprised as your brothers didn't cut their first teeth until they were 12 months. you are also snot-free for only the second time since winter started. that alone is cause for celebration. you still love to crawl, and to stand by holding on to the furniture, but you have not started walking yet and I am secretly glad.
we have introduced a bottle for your afternoon feed so we breastfeed in the morning and evening and formula feed in the day. now that you have adjusted to the bottle you flap your arms with excitement when you see me preparing it. I thought I might feel a little sad giving up one of your breastfeeds but instead I feel relieved to get a break sometimes.
your wispy hair is finally growing enough to tickle my chin when I am holding you -- a novelty after all these months. I may or may not be collecting a stash of clips and hairbands for when you're older.

a little anecdote: the week you turned 9 months old I was taking your big brother to kindy and your biggest brother (as we call him) was holding you, encouraging you to wave goodbye to us by waving your arm for you -- and then he let go and you did it by yourself! now you can wave when prompted but only with your left hand (are you left-handed?) it's very cute.
you also clap, jig up and down, and squeal with protest if I take away an object you're after, which is a new development. your personality is starting to shine through more, you seem to be sweet and feisty -- although mostly quite laid back, very similar to your biggest brother when he was a babe, but with your very own super-sized smiles.
you are a delight lady, a total delight. happy nine months.
