This lady is always after my phone. Sound familiar? So when Fisher-Price® sent us the Laugh &Learn Apptivity™ Monkey I was very intrigued to see how she'd like it. (Personally, I am into it. I love my phone and the monkey makes my phone huggable! I can hug my phone! But it's not for me, so I digress.)

The monkey has features in itself; squeezing its paws and feet elicits alphabet, counting, colour and shape songs. But the soft toy is really only complete when an iPhone® or iPod Touch® has been fitted in its belly -- the phone is covered by a plastic barrier to stop wee ones from accidentally turning the phone off.

We downloaded Fisher-Price's free Laugh & Letters Monkey App™ which interacts with the cuddly monkey when its paws are pressed. We also downloaded 'Where's Puppy's Nose' and Laugh &Learn Shapes and Colours so the lady could poke and prod the engaging animations to her heart's content. The same learning-through-play apps can also be used on the iPad®, thus Fisher-Price® also provided the Laugh &Learn™ Apptivity™ iPad® Case for us to try out. Fancy!

The case turned out to be great for her to be able to play on the iPad® while protecting it from drool and accidental emails, while the learning apps are full of fun songs and interactive games.

Guess who has learned to clap? She loved clapping and bopping along to the tunes.

The Fisher-Price Laugh &Learn™ Apptivity Monkey and The Laugh &Learn™ Apptivity™ iPad® Case are suitable for babies 6-36 months.

  4. OMG - this is the coolest thing I have ever seen and I have been searching baby websites for almost 20 weeks now (I'm almost 20 weeks pregnant!). It would be great to secure one of these before baby arrives :)

  5. I'm so thankful you have used and reviewed these products - we were thinking about getting the iPad one for Chloe at Christmas but weren't sure if we should be encouraging her to play with the iPad or actively discouraging it! I have kind of a knee-jerk negative reaction to the use of technology but it's kind of unavoidable isn't it?! And she is obsessed with my phone too - just like the lady! Honestly, I think the Apptivity Monkey looks like great fun for little ones!
    Thanks - another super giveaway!

    1. you're welcome B! the lady does not play with them for hours at a stretch but if I put them away and then bring them out for a say, 15 mins at a time she really enjoys them. the teen has expressed to me that he doesn't think wee one's should have their own devices. I think using the monkey and/or the case strike a nice balance of making them accessible without overdoing it.

  7. This is fantastic. I take my iPad everywhere for the little Mr, it's packed full of toddler games and movies. I exclaimed to my barista today 'what didn't parents do before technology?'
An elderly couple with their grandchild gave me a smug look as the bub cried with bordem. Sometimes I think I'm destroying his imagination, but then I think (hope) I am expanding it. I love these technologies, and all the bits that go with it!

    1. oh, I hope I'm not destroying wee imaginations too! the preschooler really enjoys age appropriate tv and dvd entertainment and I have never witnessed an imagination as rich as his...so anecdotally I think we're doing okay :)

  8. What a clever idea! My daughter Edie is suddenly fascinated with my iPhone (at 4 months old!). I was showing her some of the Fisher Price apps which she loves, especially the Animal Sounds, but was trying to work out how to protect my phone from all the wayward drool - the best I came up with was a zip lock bag! The Apptivity Monkey is a MUCH better idea!

    1. hi kylie, I think it depends which device you use the most and how old your little one is. we use the monkey the most because the lady also enjoys playing with it when the phone isn't in it. hope that helps!
