Given my love of vintage the wee ones may be a little deprived when it comes to fresh-out -of the-box toys. So when we were sent a shiny new Fisher Price Puppy Playhouse and Puppy Learning Car to test drive, the kiddos were quite star struck with the fantastic plastic features.

I asked the four year-old preschooler -- who was not going to miss out on the action even though the box says these goodies are for littles 6 - 36 months -- exactly what he liked about these toys. "I like both of them," he told me. "I like that the window (on the car) opens and closes."
"The bird's favourite colour is yellow and the cat's favourite colour is red," he decided of the characters that appear in the car window.

Both the car and the playhouse have musical features which are quite catchy (and surprisingly not annoying to me). The Puppy Learning car has 20 different audio features and the Puppy Playhouse sings the alphabet and has 40 different audio features.

The lady liked the music well enough but was also just happy to baby-handle everything when the music was turned off  (there is an off button) and push the chunky green car along. Actually she was trying to grab it with her new hand skills, but it's bewheeled so she kind had to reach out after it. And she was more than thrilled to give everything a big baby slobber. Of course she also wanted to play with whichever one her brother had. Lucky there were two.

But the combination of lights, number and alphabet sounds really captured the preschooler's imagination. “When the song comes alive, everything else comes alive!" he said of the Puppy Playhouse. "Like they all go moving together in one go. See, first it's the cat's turn, then it's the pup dogs turn, then it's the window's turn." Nothing was actually moving when he said this, it's how he imagined it to be. And I'm not too sure why the window gets a turn but I question not when he's so entranced.

This is the song he made up while he was playing with the car: "The puppy mobile, the puppy mobile, choo!choo! The puppy mobile. They're going on the water and across the sea. The puuuuppyyy mobile. I love my puppy mobile!"
And when miss lady finally got the toys all to herself I noticed that she focused right in on spinning the weather wheel on the top of the Puppy Playhouse with her tiny fingers, making the little house (literally) sing.

So yeah, they really liked them.

And we have one Puppy Playhouse and one Puppy Learning Car to give away. Hoorah! Just comment on this post telling us why you'd like to win. (Open to Australian postal addresses only.) Good luck!

p.s Do you think our wee ones will grow up to fancy the Fisher Price toys of today for their littles the way we value the Fisher Price toys of our childhood now? I wonder.

ETA: Winner will be drawn by random on the 1st August 2012. Please leave your email address on your comment or email it to bron@babyspace.net.au. This giveaway is open within Australia only. If the winner is not contactable within 24 hours the giveaway will be redrawn.

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED. CONGRATULATIONS A. HOBBY!

  10. Not only fun, but educational at the same time. The colors, the 20 different audio sounds and not to mention the alphabet. What a fantastic way for the children to learn. I would love to teach my little one through play with these great toys. Fisher price really do make the best. Tried and tested on many kids, they are winners in my book.

  13. Are they ever so cute?! My kiddo is usually also entranced by the box the stuff comes in. Or I have to cut out the backs with all the images so she can play with it, show it to friends and incorporate it into their play. : )

I love to read what she has been up to. My little man would love to win as he never really gets new toys, he plays with all the preschoolers hand me downs! (not that there is anything wrong with that!) I just thought he might like something of his own.

  17. With our first bub due to arrive in the next few weeks we've become little kids again ourselves as we test out the toys in department stores. The Fisher Price toys are definately our favourites, let's just hope our our baby likes them, at least then we will have an excuse to play. Maybe this could be our bubs first toy to try out.
