inspired by : tidy toys

Are you a bit of a neat freak? I go through stages where I love for things to be tidy so this level of organisation really speaks to me. How amazing would it be if the wee ones kept their toys this neat?! (Of course these toys are arranged by a grownup.)

Do you encourage your kids to keep their rooms neat as a pin or are you happy for them to organise their space to their own tastes? I'd love to hear.

  1. I am a bit of a neat freak in all the "family" areas of the home- family room, dining room, kitchen ect. But my kids rooms (and mine:) are a different story! I usually just let them take care of their own room during the week- if they want to pick it up, fine. If not, fine. BUT always on Saturday we pick up everything that gathered that week. Tate knows that she has to clean her own room on Saturday & because of this she usually picks up a little during the week so it doesn't take so long come Saturday.

  2. ps- but I do make her pick up her things. i stopped cleaning her room (besides vacuuming and dusting) about a year ago. She makes her own bed, puts her toys away, sorts her clothes, and even hangs them!! :)

  3. that's impressive chelsea. the teen went through a short-lived stage at age 4 when he used to make his bed of his own accord. those days are well and truly of the past! the preschooler loves having his things arranged but is still happy to leave mess scattered in his wake. will be interested to see how the lady is in a few years.

  4. Imagine the tidy up on that colour coded shelf though? I am a big lover of the box storage of toys. One or two massive armfuls and - poof! - room tidy. Like magic. Kellie xx
    PS MASSIVE dining table envy.

  5. I have 3 little boys and we let the house get REALLY messy during the day, toys and crafts everywhere and then JUST before my poor tired hubbie gets home from work we run around like lunatics and make it presentable ;-)

  6. Even though Baby C is just thirteen months old his stuff completely takes over our house! By the end of the day there are toys and books just about everywhere!
The way we manage is while Baby C is in the bath with one parent, the other ones does a quick clean up and puts the toys away. That way Baby C is clean and ready for bed and the house is clean and ready for the grown ups to enjoy!

  9. I am neatish-freakish. For example, those toys arranged like that are giving me heart palipitations because I just know I would spend hours arranging them like that and my children would trash the lot in seconds. It's nerve wracking seeing them all there, just waiting for it... x

  10. I go through phases - they usually end in a heap! We are trying to get the girls to keep their rooms tidy. Turn out Pip is a lot like me - I tell her off for the piles of stuff on her desk, then I walk past mine & realise they look the same! Lily likes to put er stuff away - most of the time! I have to force myself to be a neat freak in Pip's room because she has a severe allergy to dust & dust mites so I need to be able to easily dust & vacuum each & every day. Yes, I know, I feel sorry for myself too! ;)
