baby : 3 weeks

posted on: Sunday, January 22, 2012

I was sure I was having a boy. I also thought the baby space baby would arrive late like my other two boys. I was all ready to still be pregnant at 41 weeks and then to give birth to a boy. And we'd picked out a name for our third and final boy: Luka.

But as we hadn't found out for sure what sex the baby was, we'd also picked out a couple of girls names just in case (the man was sure she would be a 'she'). We narrowed it down to two: Chloe and Asher. But when she was born she didn't look at all like a Chloe or an Asher. She looked like a Rose, which wasn't even on our long list.

A girl called Rose. Born one day early. A sweet bundle of surprises right from the beginning.

How about you? If you're a mama did you name your wee one's before they were born (we did with the preschooler) or wait for their arrival? And what do you think you'll do with future bambinos? I'd love to hear.

  1. Oh Bron! Rose is such a precious name - she's divine ☺. We chose the pixies' names within 3 months of our relationship! And I chose India's back in 1981. That could be some kind of record, don't you think?! J x

  2. Rose is perfect. We picked names for our two boys before hand (and I have a girls name ready...if it happens) ;-)
When you say, we didn't find out the sex...'for sure'...I'd love to know what you mean. x

  3. Oh so sweet. Rose is a lovely name, but I could be a bit biased :)

We had a list of names for both boys and girls - but I too was convinced we'd have a boy. I found boys names so hard to think of but had quite a number of girls names...Saskia was always top of our list for a little lady and we were lucky she suited her name I suppose. We kept it to ourselves though and announced her name after the birth - it felt important to mark her arrival in such a way.

Welcome to the world sweet Rose x

  4. Our daughter's name was chosen before her birth and we were happy with it when she arrived. However, we kept it to ourselves... We're not sure we'll find out the sex this time so might mean we have more options rather than a specific name(s)
Rose is a beautiful name! :)

  5. Rose is perfect, just perfect, both in name and gorgeousness! My daughter's middle name is Rose, after her Italian grande nonna, Rosa who died at 100 years of age about a month before she was born. Roses are very beautiful and sweet and seem to last a very long time. x

  6. She is so beautiful & Rose is such a lovely name. When our youngest was born, it took my husband & i three days to choose her name. we just couldn't agree on one.

  7. She is such a beautiful baby and the quilt she's laying on is so so pretty.
I love the name but then I too am quite biased. My baby girl is called Rose and she will be a 1yr old on Tuesday! It's gone so quickly!

  8. Your wee one is definitely a 'Rose' Bron, her name suits her perfectly. With Grace, we had her name from the start although at the end we were tossing up between it and Isla (which is her middle name). However the moment we saw her, we both thought she looked definitely more like a Grace and I'm glad as that was our name of choice from the start. With Sophie, we had no other name picked out :)

  9. oh, how lovely...such a sweet name.
We've had our girls name picked since I was pregnant the very first time and I'm ever hopeful I will get to use it one day!
The boys names have been much harder. Convinced Hugh was a girl until the last ultrasound at 41 weeks and they said he would be 11 pds! Charles was named Flynn for the first 1/2 hour of his life, but we decided to name him after his grandfather instead!

  10. You are right! She is absolutely a Rose. We only found out the sex of our first ones because we were so shocked to find out about twins at 18 weeks that we thought that was enough of a surprise. The first name we had picked was and is perfect but we changed the second twin's name as it didn't suit him at all. Number 3's was chosen before conception and the last two were still a couple of days old before we were sure what suited them. Sometimes they seem to tell you themselves! She really is such a bonny babe!

  11. oh Bron, she is so precious. Look at those tiny feet - I could eat them all up! ;)

Rose is a beautiful name. We didn't find out the sex of our baby so it was hard to decide on a name. Plus, we needed a name that worked in French and English. We had more or less chosen a boy's name and definitely had a girl's name. And then when our baby was born, we also changed out minds completly! None of the boy's names we had chosen suited our little fella. And today, when we think back at the girl's name we had chosen, we like "ew, how could we have even liked it", ha ha. I think I'll be the same with the next one - I'll need to see him/her before deciding.

  12. What a sweet story! She'll love how that name was truly specifically hers. She is a beautiful Rose, for sure. We didn't name our twins until they were 5 days old. We wanted to get to know them a bit before we made the final decision. With Tate, it was either Lola or Tate, and the second we both saw her we said- Tate, for sure.

  13. Oh the best laid plans... We weren't going to find out the sex, but the OB in Morocco was all blah blah blah in french and the one word I understood was Garcon! Then it was like, we won't tell anyone and as soon we got home Hubby was it's a boy!! Name locked in pretty much straight way, but prior to that we'd locked in a girls name as well, which we used for our daughter... No more kidlets for us...

  14. What a beautiful name. It is on my short list for a girl, I have two lists. And will wait to meet Souvie before we settle on a name. Xox

  15. my first bub I wanted to be a boy, my only 'baby dream' told me it was a girl but i kept hoping for a boy. He was. My second, I thought it would be a girl. We could only pick a girls name and I just had a feeling it would be a girl. It wasn't to be. We had another boy! next time, I'm hoping for another boy - gotta get pregnant first though!

  16. i'm tearing up over here! she's is so, so gorgeous and her name is so fitting! so precious! we didn't name our 2nd son until after he was born. we were still in the hospital and you're so right about having some names in mind, but then your bundle of joy doesn't look like the names chosen... enjoy every micro second!!:-). xx

  17. I think the name suits her perfectly, she's the prettiest little Rose! I named Daniela before she was born, although I had thought of other names, but they wouldn't have suited her. Daniela is Daniela :)

  18. Love the sweet name - and she is so cute :)
We picked out Little A's name when I was in week 20 and we got to know it was going to be a boy but we kept it a secret to make sure it would fit him - and it did :) When my cousin got his son everyone knew the name for the last 6 months! - i found that a bit strange.

  19. Aw... SO SWEET! Happy New Year Bron and family! I'm just melting here looking at the photos.. I actually had only names of girls in my head before my daughter was born. And when she was finally here, I had a hard time calling her her name! I just called her 'baby' for the longest time until she was about 5 months. lol.

we named both before they were born...we decided on both and then changed our minds in the few day leading up to their arrival...

    Tyler and Trevor

having two t's wasn't intentional...trevor was the ONLY name we connected with for our second son

  21. I am so in love with Rose! Each photo you post makes me tear up with joy!!

Both girls were named by 14 weeks- although officially at the 20 week ultrasound. Both came out though suiting their names. I do believe that you can change your mind though. Both I also feel like both my girls picked their names in the womb. Crazy, but true.

  22. love reading all of your name stories!

katrina -- what I meant by 'for sure' was that I'd had a dream that the baby was a boy so I was convinced! but we asked not to be told on the ultrasound so we didn't know for sure...
(the mr will never believe my dreams again! ;)
