Please welcome one of our lovely new baby space contributors, Belinda Nihill from Nest Design Studio.

vibeRelaxed, modern and whimsical.
who lives here?
Hugh, now nearly 2, in regional Victoria, Australia.
décorThe key feature of the room is Hugh’s tree which was drawn and painted by me. I also made the owls on his tree and his prints. Many of the items in his room were made by family and friends (such as the Hugh blocks and quilt). Other items featured in his room include red suitcases and an Alimrose mobile from Babys Got Style, cushions from Freedom Furniture, the lamp is from Fantastic Furniture and the Hugh lettering is from Bambini Pronto.
wallsThroughout our house the walls and ceilings are painted Haymes White Wash and in Hugh’s room the feature wall colour is Dulux Sell Out.
furnitureThe cot is a King Parrot Daintree, the gorgeous white leather chair is an Italsofa and the beautiful vintage dresser is a family heirloom.
diyAfter trawling through many websites, I couldn’t find the shape I was after for Hugh's tree and decided to paint it myself. It also incorporates a little memorial -- I had a miscarriage before having Hugh and we had nicknamed the baby Apple (I painted an apple on the tree).
At the time, owls weren’t very popular so there wasn’t much around in the way of artwork. I created the owls on Hugh’s tree and the owl prints on his wall by using decorative paper. It was simple, easy and cheap!

best buys
His tree! I just used paint the painters had left behind when they painted our new house.

Unique doesn’t have to mean expensive. Shop around, you will find things you can use in your nursery anywhere, not just baby stores.
