Oh, the irresistible allure of white. The blank canvas on which to paint; the fresh glow of the neutral shade. In terms of aesthetic value, it's hard to go wrong with white - everything goes with it, it can famously create the illusion of spaciousness and it's timeless. Things can get a bit trickier when wee sticky fingers get involved, but take care to use washable linen and slip covers and wipeable wall paint, and white can rein on. A practical bonus is that dust is less visible on white surfaces, and far from being a single colour (or non-colour) white comes in many shades - from ivory to vanilla and cream - which can all be layered to luxurious effect.
