room for baby : little gentleman

Luxurious, cosy and masculine.

who lives here?
Three month-old Justin in Northern Virginia, USA.

Mum, Lauren, is an interior designer and made the signature soft furnishings in the room. The blanket draped over the cot rail is made from second-hand curtains backed with fleece while the impressive canopy was fashioned from a 4. 3 metre dropcloth patterned with a stencil and leftover navy wall paint. To hang the canopy, Lauren stapled it to the ceiling and the wall with a staplegun.

Above the chaise a Spanish sundial and framed pictures of toadstools, owls and ships add a masculine fairy tale feel to the room. The shelves by Justin's cot hold white cloth baskets for toy storage while on top Lauren has placed a set of second-hand scales on two books and added a jug of branches from her garden.

The dark wood cot and Ikea timber shelves are joined by an elegant pale mushroom chaise that Lauren uses as a feeding chair. The chaise is also large enough for the whole family to cuddle up on.

baby space fave
The chaise corner with the wall display of framed pictures. The perfect place for curling up with baby - or a good book!

top tip
Be brave and step outside the square when it comes to wall colour and nursery motifs. (Or have a decorator be brave for you.)
